Prostate cancer treatment options research is revealing surprising and welcome results for men who have undergone treatment for prostate cancer. Men who have undergone radiation or surgery in an effort to treat and eliminate prostate cancer experience an increase in prostate-specific antigens (PSA). If PSA levels are high, it means that cancer is present in the body. If the PSA levels continue to rise, it means that cancer is spreading in the body. However, a study conducted at UCLA reveals some amazing proof to support prostate cancer treatment options with pomegranates!
The UCLA Study Proves that Prostate Cancer Treatment Options and Pomegranates are Connected
Under the direction of Dr. Allan Pantuck, an Associate Professor of Urology and a Jonsson Cancer Center researcher, 50 men agreed to participate in a study relating pomegranate juice with possibly lowering their PSA levels. The results are incredible.
The study lasted for three years. The men who participated had undergone either surgery to remove prostate cancer, or had undergone radiation to eliminate the cancer. Following these medical procedures, the men had all experienced an increase in their PSA levels, which mean there was still cancer present in their bodies.
However, the men in this UCLA study are seeing a doubling time as long as 54 months (just under 5 years!). This is an amazing increase in the time that men with prostate cancer can enjoy quality of life and extended longevity. Although pomegranate juice alone is not a cure for prostate cancer, it may be possible that these men could outlive their risk of dying from the cancer itself.
Why is the Prostate Cancer Treatment Options Research with Pomegranates Exciting?
If simply drinking pomegranate juice on a daily basis can stabilize PSA levels, then it’s possible that cancer could be prevented at some point in time (possibly!).
Why does the juice work? We already know that pomegranates and the juice from this amazing fruit contain more antioxidants than other fruits and juices. Antioxidants fight the free radicals that cause cancer. So, it makes sense that the antioxidants in the pomegranates would help fight the cancer, right? No one single thing within the juice is attributed to the success of the juice on PSA levels, but further research is being conducted to see if the reason behind the juice working so well can be discovered.
Conclusions Regarding Prostate Cancer Treatment Options with Pomegranates
It is hoped that the PSA levels continue to be inhibited by the addition of pomegranate juice to a healthy diet. Someday, it is hoped that this connection discovered with pomegranate and prostate research will be the way to delaying or even eliminating the need for chemotherapy and/or hormone replacement therapies.
Pomegranate juice is a natural solution for so many diseases we are seeing today and prostate cancer is no exception.
